From 14 to 17 July 2026, BioFairNet partners gathered in Speinshart, Germany, for a dedicated modelling retreat focused on one of the project’s key outcomes: the Green Information Factory. The event brought together technical experts, researchers and communication specialists to advance the development of a digital platform designed to support a fair and circular bioeconomy transition.
More than a technical workshop, the retreat provided an opportunity to align expertise from across the consortium and further develop a shared vision for how the platform can support stakeholders across bio-based value chains.
Building the Green Information Factory
A central focus of the retreat was the presentation of the latest developments of the Green Information Factory, including its functionalities, technical progress and user experience design. Partners also reviewed feedback collected through stakeholder engagement activities, ensuring that the platform continues to reflect the needs and expectations of its intended users.
The Green Information Factory is being developed through a co-creation process that combines technical expertise from the consortium with input from stakeholders. This collaborative approach helps ensure that the platform remains practical, accessible and relevant to the challenges faced by regions, industries, policymakers and other bioeconomy actors.
Connecting knowledge across the project
Throughout the retreat, partners explored how the platform can support activities across different work packages and strengthen connections between project outputs. Dedicated workshops examined opportunities for integrating knowledge generated by the consortium into a shared digital environment where users can access information, discover solutions and explore emerging opportunities
Working groups also discussed priorities for the upcoming alpha version of the platform and identified ways to strengthen links between the Green Information Factory and other BioFairNet activities. These sessions helped define the next steps in the platform’s development and the role it can play in supporting the project’s wider objectives.
From development to impact
A key message emerging from the retreat was that digital innovation only creates value when it responds to real-world challenges. For this reason, the Green Information Factory is being designed as more than a digital repository. Its ambition is to support informed decision-making, facilitate collaboration and improve access to knowledge that can accelerate the transition towards more circular and sustainable practices.
By combining scientific expertise, stakeholder input and digital technologies, BioFairNet is creating a platform that can support long-term uptake and create benefits beyond the lifetime of the project.
The consortium would also like to thank the Speinshart Scientific Center for its warm welcome and hospitality throughout the retreat. As a hub for interdisciplinary research and innovation, the centre provided an ideal setting for focused discussions, collaborative work and the continued development of the Green Information Factory.
